Portraits of artists as artist’s assistants talk

POSTER - TALK (ARTIST ASSISTANT) 2

The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) will hold a talk on 30 June, Tuesday, from 2pm to 4pm featuring three artist’s assistants. The talk will look into what an artist’s assistant is, what skills are necessary to become an artist’s assistant and/or when one is an artist’s assistant, why is there a need for an artist’s assistant, how one become an artist’s assistant, etc.

Ralph Lumbres is a visual artist, artist director, production designer, artist’s assistant and Fine Arts professor in Kalayaan College. He recently worked with Paul Pfeiffer as an artist’s assistant for his exhibit, “Vitruvian Figure”, at MCAD.

Ness Roque-Lumbres is a core member of contemporary performance company, Sipat Lawin Ensemble. She also served as
artist’s assistant to Leeroy New.

Ioannis Sicuya is a Fine Arts graduate, layout designer, and he worked as an artist’s assistant of Jose Santos III for his exhibit, “2Hide”, and as a muralist painter for Raya Martin’s indie film “Independencia”.

An artist’s assistant handles all the works that needs to be done to make the artist focus only on his/her art. The artist’s assistant manages the artist as he/she needs someone who has necessary knowledge in the executive side of handling work of art. Assisting an artist as an aspiring artist is also a great experience in knowing the technical area of the field.

This talk is part of MCAD Platforms, and is free and open to the public.
